News Gathering vs. Confirmation Bias
- Remember, if you do not have at least one source of news that you turn to regularly, with which you routinely disagree, then you are not practicing news gathering! You are practicing [confirmation bias].

[S]cience is more than a body of knowledge; it is a way of thinking. I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time – when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the key manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness.
The dumbing down of America is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30-second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance.
— Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark (New York: Ballantine Books, 1996) at p.32.

Everything looks fine, until it isn’t fine.
Well, as Dr. Phil Plaitt (aka The Bad Astronomer) states below, this video is very, very good at explaining why we don’t see this stuff until it’s too late, and why early action gets called overreaction. Dr. Joe Hanson (of It’s Okay to Be Smart) explains in very easy to understand terms. Hey folks. Confused […]

Real Crises Demand Real Leadership
Not a Democrat. Not a fan of Biden. This is a strong political ad. In times of crisis, American presidents have always stepped up to meet the moment. But all we've gotten from Donald Trump are lies, excuses, and scapegoats. Trump has failed our country at a time when we need him most. pic.twitter.com/d2vxUHGiH0 — […]
Crisis comes to every presidency. This one failed.
Not a Democrat. Not a fan of Biden. This is strong messaging. Crisis comes to every presidency. We don’t blame them for that. What matters is how they handle it. On that measure, President Trump has failed us. It’s time for him to go. #coronavirus #covid19 pic.twitter.com/G8HvZ3AST2 — Unite the Country (@UniteCountryPAC) March 25, 2020
God vs. Trump: Who brings back more people on Easter Sunday?
We are gonna bring back the economy on Easter Sunday. Because God who is, to be honest, is, you know he’s a good God, he’s done some string things… God only brought one guy back from the dead on Easter. Trump is here to bring back the whole economy on Easter 2020. Enjoy this clip […]

Prince: Remembering Kenny Rogers
Remembering Kenny Rogers, who released the tender ballad "You're My Love" in 1986. The song was written by Joey Coco—a pseudonym used by the one and only Prince. https://t.co/DomOWVtO8p#TheGambler #RIPLegend @_KennyRogers pic.twitter.com/1Yd4CFh72a — Prince (@prince) March 21, 2020
Dolly: You never know how much you love somebody until they’re gone.
You never know how much you love somebody until they’re gone. I’ve had so many wonderful years and wonderful times with my friend Kenny, but above all the music and the success I loved him as a wonderful man and a true friend. pic.twitter.com/hIQLIvt8pr — Dolly Parton (@DollyParton) March 21, 2020
