[S]cience is more than a body of knowledge; it is a way of thinking. I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time – when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the key manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness.
The dumbing down of America is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30-second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance.
— Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark (New York: Ballantine Books, 1996) at p.32.

Tom’s Guide: The Workflow app for iOS was always widely recognized as one of the platform’s most powerful apps. And now, it’s a part of the platform, after Apple bought Workflow and made the app available for free. Because of that, there’s never been a better time to give it a try. Here are 25 […]
BusinessWeek: Listen Up Apple-Haters
Eric Chemi writing at BusinessWeek, “Listen Up Apple-Haters: IPhone (sic) Sales Eclipse Microsoft and Amazon Revenue” The iPhone 5s and 5c sold a record 9 million units during the first weekend after its launch. Consider this: The brand’s sales haul over the last four reported quarters eclipses that of such companies as Home Depot (HD), […]
iOS 5 beta 2 is out
Didn’t see it yesterday evening, but Apple has released iOS 5 beta 2 for developers, along with Xcode 4 Developer Preview 2 and iTunes 10.5 beta 2. This comes as a relief to me, because despite the constant warning from Apple that “[t]his beta version of iOS should only be deployed on devices dedicated for […]
Use a SmartPhone? Meet the Oona.
The Oona is a smartphone stand, but like no other I’ve seen. It’s simple, elegant, and will work with most any smartphone. I’ll be using mine with the iPhone 4, but it’s not just for iPhone users. Follow the link to KickStarter and watch the video. Looks like it does everything! Mark me down.
White iPhone 4
Finally, indeed! I bought one. I love it. It rocks. Yada, yada, yada… Plus, as as added bonus, I finally get to do something with the iPhone 4 dock and bumper that I bought the day after the WWDC 2010 Keynote, that have just been sitting on a shelf for lo these many months!
Apple Q&A on Location Data
3. Why is my iPhone logging my location? The iPhone is not logging your location. Rather, it’s maintaining a database of Wi-Fi hotspots and cell towers around your current location
WordPress for iOS
I must say, the WordPress for iOS app has really matured since I last used it (it was called WordPress for iPhone back then…).
