R.I.P. Gilbert Gottfried

Gilbert Gottfried, the stand-up comedian with the shrill voice known for his performances equal parts chaotic, clever and crude, has died after a long illness, his family announced Tuesday. He was 67.

Damn.

CAUGHT: Marsha Blackburn nailed by Federal Election Commission for illegal donation

The ‘G’ in GOP often stands for Grift, and Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) knows it all too well. Blackburn has spent 30 years in government. She just got caught taking from Tennessee families while enriching her own.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been funneled, from both Blackburn’s Congressional and Senate campaigns, into the accounts of companies owned by Blackburn’s daughter, Mary Morgan Ketchel, and her husband, Paul Ketchel III.

The thievery operated right out of the basement of the Ketchels’ Nashville home.

Of course, those of us in Middle Tennessee have known for years — years — about Moscow Masha’s penchant for grift…

Will Smith shows true colors, hypocrisy at Academy Awards

I suppose congratulation are in order for Will Smith — not for the Oscar® he so clearly deserves for his amazing portrayal of Richard Williams in the 2021 film King Richard, but for his recent admission to the Joke Police, a subsidiary of the Thought Police.

You’ve all seen the clip. Rock makes the G.I. Jane 2 joke*. The camera cuts to Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith — notably, Will Smith is laughing and Jada Piinkett Smith is smiling, though her smile rather quickly turns to a cringe, while Will just keeps on laughing. The camera cuts back to Rock.

It’s at this point that Will Smith must have realized that he’s on national television and has a unique opportunity.

What a hypocrite! Laugh, laugh, laugh, oh wait!

Not to mention the fact that if anyone — anyone — were to decide to raise the flag of censorship and waive it high of his head, the last person you’d think would make that decision is an “artist”. A term that Will Smith undoubtedly applies to himself.

It’s a sad day.

New study indicates populist attitudes are associated with gullibility.

Populism exists throughout the political spectrum as a political ideology that defines society as conflict between ordinary people and the elites. Many conspiracy theories fit populist ideals in how they hinge on the elites as responsible for ordinary people’s societal issues. New research, published in Political Psychology, found that populist attitudes are associated with conspiracy mentality, which is the tendency to believe in the prevalence of conspiracy theories.

Populist attitudes group the world into two adversarial groups: us “the people” vs. them “the elites.” Study author Jan-Willem van Prooijen and colleagues argue that seeing the world so simplistically might be associated with less critical evaluation of information, especially if that information is in favor of the people and against the elites.

“Accordingly, populist attitudes are empirically related with the belief that simple solutions exist for complex societal problems,” wrote the researchers. “Paradoxically, this clear-cut worldview that characterizes populist attitudes is likely associated with an increased confidence in the veracity of their cognitions and beliefs—and with it, increased gullibility.”

Truthfully, no comment is necessary, but if I had to comment, it’d be, “uh, duh!”
