Remembering Steve McNair

Independence Day conjures up images of “Air” McNair’s amazing performances and a life taken too soon

Yussuf Khan writing at The Shadow League (last year):

He was known for his toughness and for being a dual threat with both his arm and legs, and he was always the one to watch when he had the ball in his hands. […] He was an original, and another great name in the long line of incredible Black college quarterbacks whose on field performance elevated them to legendary status. […]

Steve “Air” McNair was a football legend who will never be forgotten, and on Independence Day, we honor his memory.

How the Koch Brothers Are Killing Public Transit Projects Around the Country

Hiroko Tabuchi in the paper of record:

In places like Nashville, Koch-financed activists are finding tremendous success.

Early polling here had suggested that the $5.4 billion transit plan would easily pass. It was backed by the city’s popular mayor and a coalition of businesses. Its supporters had outspent the opposition, and Nashville was choking on cars.

But the outcome of the May 1 ballot stunned the city: a landslide victory for the anti-transit camp, which attacked the plan as a colossal waste of taxpayers’ money.

Wow! Oil billionaries who oppose mass transit, imagine that!

It should come as no surprise that the sheeple of Nashville aren’t critical thinkers, hell, most people in our country just pick a favorite “news” source–one that tells them what they want to hear–and then believe everything that source tells them without question. I can’t tell you how many conservatives/Republicans I know that simply regurgitate Brietbart “headlines” and consider it to be original thinking… sad. And, for the record, liberals/Democrats are no better.

Sadder still, is that Nashville is truly “choking on cars,” and there’s no relief in sight. In fact, things will only get worse… much worse.

5 things white people can do before they call the cops on a black person

Reasonable list from Mashable, should be filed under “common fucking sense.”

How the Case for Voter Fraud Was Tested — and Utterly Failed

Jessica Huseman at ProPublica:

That made the trial a telling opportunity to remove the voter fraud claims from the charged, and largely proof-free, realms of political campaigns and cable news shoutfests and examine them under the exacting strictures of the rules of evidence.

That’s precisely what occurred and according to [Chief District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Kansas, Julie] Robinson, an appointee of George W. Bush, the proof that voter fraud is widespread was utterly lacking. As the judge put it, “the court finds no credible evidence that a substantial number of noncitizens registered to vote” even under the previous law, which [Kansas Secretary of State Kris] Kobach had claimed was weak.

No surprise. There’s never been any–ANY–credible evidence of anything even approaching the runaway voter fraud claimed for decades by Conservatives.
